PEODAS System

The PEODAS system is an extention of the BODAS system developed as part of the BLUElink Project into a pseudo Ensemble Kalman Filter. It uses a time evolving ensemble to specify the covariances for the OI assimilation.

An ocean re-analyses from 1980 to 2006 has been completed using the PEODAS systems.

In a collaborative project with Magdalena Balmaseda of ECMWF an intercomparison with the ECMWF systems is being performed.

Preliminary results are show below.

Control - POAMA model with no assimlation (but includes 3D relaxation of T/S with a 2 year timescale)

A012 - POAMA-1 assimilation system (Univariate OI as in Smith et al 1981)

PEODAS - The new ACCESS PEODAS system

ECMWF - the ORA-S3 ECWMF Ocaen Analysis system
